It’s a heck of an awesome time to be working and living in Knoxville. Businesses are thriving. The population is growing at a steady and healthy rate. And have you seen South Knoxville, lately? It’s booming with new businesses, breweries, and parks. We love Knoxville. This city is totally jammin’. That’s why Big Slate Media’s president, Jonathan Halley, decided to get even more involved as a Knoxville Chamber Ambassador and board member with the KAMA (Knoxville American Marketing Association).
You might be wondering, why is it important to get involved with these kinds of organizations? Is it even worth the time and effort? For us, we’re expanding our understanding of community-based marketing. There’s substance and meaning to a transaction when people buy products or services from people, not from businesses. A lot of it has to do with building and maintaining your personal brand. With community-based marketing, there’s a heavy emphasis on making sure that your sales and social media campaigns are personal. Who would you rather do business with: a faceless corporate automaton or a company with a fun and engaging personality?

So, what’s the story with a Knoxville Chamber Ambassador? What do they do? Are they diplomatic figureheads representing the interests of our county? Well, sort of. They represent a wide spectrum of businesses and organizations and strive to build meaningful bonds through networking and partnerships. Should an individual become interested in becoming an ambassador like Jonathan did, they simply need to apply. One of the essentials of being a Knoxville Chamber Ambassador is to be present and represent the Chamber at various networking events. The goal of the program is to 1) encourage engagement between members to build professional relationships and 2) to facilitate growth through encouraging new membership. These folks work exceptionally hard to strengthen the connection between the Chamber and its growing membership base.
Other responsibilities include:
- Promoting the Chamber and corresponding events
- Attending the monthly Ambassador meeting (the first Tuesday of each month)
- Participate in a minimum of (10) ten functions during the Chamber’s fiscal year.
- Track all Chamber-related activities and report them to the Chamber.
You might be wondering about the networking events we’ve mentioned in this blog. These are not your run-of-the-mill networking events. They’re fun and engaging, and the people are a blast to be around. If you haven’t heard of the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce’s Schmoozapalooza, you should check it out. It’s hosted twice a year and pulls in around 700 business professionals. This is definitely worth looking into, and it’s a great way to get your name out there and network with some amazing people.
This has been an excellent and productive way to stay involved in the community and make meaningful connections with like-minded professionals. If being a Knoxville Chamber Ambassador sounds like something you’d be interested in as well, you should check it out! And if you’re interested in partnering or working with Big Slate Media to contribute to this fantastic community, we would love to hear from you. Knoxville is on the fast-track to continued success and positive growth, and it’s a pleasure and a privilege to be a part of it.
